On 24 January, InterOPERA took part in the SETPlan workshop “Direct current technologies: a game-changer for the energy transition’’, organised by the Implementation Working Group (IWG) on HVDC in Brussels.
During the event, we contributed to the panel discussion “High Voltage Direct Current – needs and innovation gaps”. One of the key questions of the discussion centered around how we can ensure that future HVDC transmission infrastructure is effectively coordinated, interoperable, and integrated at European level.
Representatives from the InterOPERA project showcased the collective efforts in developing Europe’s first multi-terminal, multi-vendor HVDC grid. This innovation aims to strengthen cross-border onshore connections, expanding the energy market, reduce congestion in the transmission systems, and minimise the need for additional onshore electrical infrastructure in Europe.
